At the very heart of Hornsbury Mill Hotel lies its culinary soul: The Wheel Room restaurant and the adjoining Coach Room. Under the expert guidance of our exceptionally talented Head Chef, Chris Chatfield, we have created a dining destination that celebrates the very best of Somerset.
Having previously worked with and trained by Michael Cains himself, this is the start of a whole brand-new culinary chapter for Hornsbury Mill. Previously holding the prestigious position as Michael Cains’s Head Chef, Chris joins Hornsbury with a wealth of natural and ingrained talent. Alongside his 21 years’ culinary experience, Chris has been collecting an accolade of recognition and awards. Having worked in various Michelin star and multi rosette kitchens across the UK and gained no less than 8 rosettes over different venues himself. Judging by the success Chris is already making of the restaurant at Hornsbury Mill, it’s easy to see why. Will Hornsbury be the next venture to receive Rosettes under this exceptional talent? We think so!
Following a full renovation in October 2025, The Wheel Room now offers a stunning setting for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, seven days a week. Our philosophy is simple: fresh, seasonal, and locally sourced ingredients, crafted into dishes that delight. Whether you’re joining us for a leisurely lunch, a special occasion dinner, or our renowned plated Sunday roast, every meal is prepared with passion and precision.
But what truly sets Hornsbury Mill apart is our magnificent 18-foot working waterwheel. Lovingly restored and operating during daylight hours, it is believed to be the oldest working water mill in Somerset. Illuminated against the evening sky, it provides a breath-taking and uniquely historical backdrop to your dining experience.

Open 7 days a week for breakfast, lunch, and dinner (Sunday dining until 4pm).
Monday – Saturday: Lunch 12pm-2.30pm, dinner 6pm-8.30pm, afternoon teas 12pm-4pm.
Sunday: Plated roasts 12pm-3pm, afternoon teas 3pm-4pm
Please note that our menus are subject to change with the seasons. We would advise to check upon booking of our latest menu. All allergies and dietary requirements can be catered for with prior notice. Our plated Sunday roasts are available 12-3pm and booking is advisable. The restaurant is closed on a Sunday evening but if you’re staying then we can offer a pre-booked food board.
